Grab your tissues for two heartwarming episodes of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” this Wednesday and Thursday, when a man on a mission tries to get to a million!
Contestant Bill Matheny surprises host Chris Harrison and the “Millionaire” audience with the announcement that he will donate all of his winnings to the elementary school he attended as a child.
Matheny, a Catholic priest at All Saints Church in Bridgeport, West Virginia, pledges his prize money to alma mater St. Francis of Assisi in Saint Albans as a gesture of gratitude for his start in life. Father Maheny hopes to help the school grow their scholarship fund, increase teacher salaries, and enhance the infrastructure.
Father Matheny has auditioned to be a contestant on “Millionaire” at least once a year over the past 17 years. He almost didn’t audition this season, but luckily a good friend convinced him to try out once again.
How far will Father Matheny’s mission take him? Find your time and channel in the station finder above and tune in Tuesday and Wednesday to find out.
“Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” returns for an all-new season with host Chris Harrison from the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada, when it premieres its 15th season in national syndication on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2016. Las Vegas has become one of the premier entertainment capitals of the world, and beginning this fall, “Millionaire” will originate from its new production home at Bally’s Las Vegas. “Millionaire” continues to be the only program to offer a $1 million prize to each and every contestant as America’s richest game show.
“Millionaire” features contestants from all over the country and from all walks of life, and remains a game in which anyone can walk in and win big. In the show’s classic format, contestants must answer 14 trivia questions correctly with the aid of three lifelines – Ask the Audience, Plus One and 50/50 – in order to win $1 million. Contestants also can win big as they navigate their way up the ladder, as the tension and difficulty build with each question, along with the prize money. Since the show debuted in syndication in 2002, contestants have won nearly $95 million.
Throughout the 2016-2017 season, “Millionaire” will be bringing back some of its most popular specialty weeks, such as “Bachelor Fan Favorites” (including “Bachelorette” Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth, “Bachelors” Chris Soules and Ben Flajnik, “Bachelor in Paradise” couple Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert) and “Whiz Kids” (some of the smartest eight to 15-year-old kids in the country). Also joining the line-up are exciting new specialty weeks such as “Celebrity Week: Las Vegas” (including Wayne Newton, Penn & Teller and Giada De Laurentiis), “Victory for Veterans” (in appreciation of the incredible service members from our armed forces) and “Hometown Heroes” (honoring men and women known in their communities for devoting their time to the greater good).
Good news! Millionaire is moving its production to the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada to tape at Bally’s Las Vegas in front of a live studio audience.
Even better news? Booked contestants and ticketed members of the studio audience will be eligible for a 20% discount on hotel room rates at Bally’s Las Vegas, Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, and Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
